Piyush Kumar, Kunal Gupta Decision Equity. The Ultimate Metric to Connect Marketing Actions ProfiTs

More than even before, marketers need to justify their decisions by linkingthem to the corporate bottom line. While this is a challenging task, what makes it more daunting is the absence of a systematic approachand an overarching metric to help make fi nancially sound marketingdecisions. In this new book, Kumar and Gupta resolve both problems. Theyintroduce breakthrough thinking around the fi nancial consequences ofmarketing actions and propose decision equity as the ultimate metric toconnect marketing strategies to fi nancial success. Using numerous casestudies from small fi rms to global conglomerates, they provide a comprehensiveand robust framework for implementing a decision equity-basedstrategic approach within an organization. The authors build a compelling case for fact-based decision makingand illustrate the power of cross- functional participation in strategicproblem solving. They provide a step- by- step approach to build decisionequity-based systems within fi rms. They show how organizations can winand achieve their strategic vision by developing a linkage orientation andlearning how to connect their Actions to Profits.

James G. March Primer on Decision Making. How Decisions Happen

Building on lecture notes from his acclaimed course at Stanford University, James March provides a brilliant introduction to decision making, a central human activity fundamental to individual, group, organizational, and societal life. March draws on research from all the disciplines of social and behavioral science to show decision making in its broadest context. By emphasizing how decisions are actually made -- as opposed to how they should be made -- he enables those involved in the process to understand it both as observers and as participants.March sheds new light on the decision-making process by delineating four deep issues that persistently divide students of decision making: Are decisions based on rational choices involving preferences and expected consequences, or on rules that are appropriate to the identity of the decision maker and the situation? Is decision making a consistent, clear process or one characterized by ambiguity and inconsistency? Is decision making significant primarily for its outcomes, or for the individual and social meanings it creates and sustains? And finally, are the outcomes of decision processes attributable solely to the actions of individuals, or to the combined influence of interacting individuals, organizations, and societies? March's observations on how intelligence is -- or is not -- achieved through decision making, and possibilities for enhancing decision intelligence, are also provided.March explains key concepts of vital impo...

Matthias Ackermann Introduction of Different Easy to Handle Decision Making Techniques

Research paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie und Management gemeinnützige GmbH, Hochschulstudienzentrum Freiburg, course: Management Decision Making, language: English, abstract: The most important job of any executive is making decisions. It is also the toughest and riskiest job, because bad decisions can damage a business and a career, in some situations irreparably. In many cases these bad decisions occur when alternatives were not clearly defined, the right information was not collected, the costs and benefits were not accurately weighed, or the decision maker himself was sabotaged by the human brain. In the present complex environment, the executives call for a way to cope with the myriad factors that affect the achievement of goals and the consistency of the judgement the decision makers use to draw valid conclusions. (Harvard Business Review 2011, p. 1, Saaty 2013, p. 6) Many difficulties like uncertainty about the future, variation of consequences of different actions, difficulties because of too few or too many available alternatives, and complexity of a decision situation, if more factors have to be taken into account, make it more important to support the decision makers with procedures and tools that have been developed for a systematic selection of requirements and processing of relevant information. The general approach of decision making ranges from the highly complex problems to the relativel...

Jimmy Teng Decision Rule, Belief and Strategy

The book studies the question of how to make statistical analysis in games. It introduces a new equilibrium concept for games with incomplete information and noisy inaccurate observation of action: Bayesian rational prior equilibrium. A rational prior belief correctly predicts the strategy of a player given his type. The rational prior Bayesian decision rule is an un-dominated decision rule for its makes efficient use of all available information, including the information on the type and the information on the action of the other players. When all players use the rational prior Bayesian decision rule, the game is in its Bayesian rational prior equilibrium and achieves rationality in action/strategy, beliefs (both prior and posterior) and decision rule as well as consistency between beliefs and equilibrium strategies/actions. Four applications illustrate the properties of the Bayesian rational prior equilibrium and the method of solving games and doing formal analysis: a market leadership game, a statistical discrimination model, an inflationary belief game and an arms race model.

John Malcolm Dowling, Chin-Fang Yap MODERN DEVELOPMENTS IN BEHAVIORAL ECONOMICS. SOCIAL SCIENCE PERSPECTIVES ON CHOICE AND DECISION MAKING

This book examines the field of behavioral economics and provides insights into the following questions: The book looks at decision making and behavior from the point of view of (i) individual behavior and choice; (ii) group and interactive choice; and (iii) collective choices and decision making. In particular, it covers the following aspects: instances when bounded rationality leads to decisions inconsistent with standard economic assumptions; risk and the processes by which investors and consumers make decisions; altruistic and cooperative behavior as alternatives to competition; game theory as a way to explore motives of cooperation versus competition; the determinants of happiness and the relationship between utility and well-being; the concept of social capital, including motivations for charity and being a responsible citizen; how trust and fairness relate to economic actions and the motivation to cooperate rather than compete; behavior such as crime, corruption and bribery from ethical, social and economic viewpoints; and, finally, the decision making process of collective choice and how societies develop rules for governing themselves. This is the first book to bridge economics, psychology, sociology and political sciences and explain the nuanced subtleties of decision making

Sheikh Javed Usmani and S.K. Gandhi Geospatial Technology In Land Resource Planning And Management

‘Land’ plays multidimensional role in maintaining many global processes, therefore sustainable planning and management of land resources is an important issue at the global forum. The process of land resource planning and associated decision-making invariably involves multiple objectives, multiple criteria and multiple social interests and preferences. Such complexity necessitates a systematic approach to the decision-making process to accommodate the multiplicity and multi dimensionality of the problem to improve the reason ability of decisions and to justify the actions to be taken. Application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is widely spread in resource inventory and mapping, however, the potential of GIS for planning and decision-making couldn’t be utilized fully due to it’s Limited ability to represent judgments, values, arguments and opinions of the decision makers. Integrating GIS and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods can overcome these limitations.

Pascale Zarate Tools for Collaborative Decision-Making

Decision-making has evolved recently thanks to the introduction of information and communication technologies in many organizations, which has led to new kinds of decision-making processes, called “collaborative decision-making”, at the organizational and cognitive levels. This book looks at the development of the decision-making process in organizations. Decision-aiding and its paradigm of problem solving are defined, showing how decision-makers now need to work in a cooperative way. Definitions of cooperation and associated concepts such as collaboration and coordination are given and a framework of cooperative decision support systems is presented, including intelligent DSS, cooperative knowledge-based systems, workflow, group support systems, collaborative engineering, integrating with a collaborative decision-making model in part or being part of global projects. Several models and experimental studies are also included showing that these new processes have to be supported by new types of tools, several of which are described in order to calculate or simulate solutions or global solutions for decision-making modification. Definitions and new trends for these models are given, along with types of systems. Contents 1. Alteration of Decision-Making Processes in Organizations. 2. New Decision-Making Processes. 3. The Need to Cooperate. 4. Cooperative Decision-Making. 5. Activity Support Systems. 6. Cooperative Decision Support Systems: CDSSS. About the Authors Pascale Zaraté is Professor at Toulouse 1 Capitole University, France. She conducts her research at the IRIT Laboratory and is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Decision Support Systems Technologies. She is co-chair of the European Working Group on DSS and has published several studies and books.
